Digital Hotplates & Stirrers

Magnetic hotplate stirrers are ubiquitous devices found in almost every biological or chemical laboratory for the simultaneous heating and stirring of liquids contained within a beaker or similar vessel. They can also be used to stir liquids at room temperature, or to heat a solution without stirring.

Hotplate/stirrers cause a small stir bar (sometimes known as a ‘flea’) to spin rapidly in the vessel containing a solution by means of a rotating magnetic field. This ensures that reagents are thoroughly mixed and that any potential reaction is encouraged and possibly accelerated. Magnetic hotplate stirrers are ideal for reactions on a small-scale (a volume of around 20 L can be mixed adequately by a magnetic hotplate/stirrer) involving solutions that are not too viscous. Digital hotplate/stirrers from Scilogex incorporate an LCD display that is back-lit and therefore easy to read. The display clearly shows the current temperature and rotation speed, allowing for easy adjustment until appropriate levels are reached. An electronic speed control also ensures a constant speed is maintained, even during changes in load; while a PT-1000 sensor for medium temperature control can also be fitted to the unit.
