Vortex Mixers
Vortex mixers are a standard laboratory devise designed to mix small amounts of a liquid. Lab mixers of this type consist of an electric motor with a vertically-oriented drive shaft attached to a small cupper-shaped piece of rubber, mounted slightly off-center. As the motor turns, the rubber piece rotates rapidly in a circular motion, transmitting this motion to a sample container that is placed in close contact. This causes the sample container to orbit, creating a vortex in the liquid inside. The vortex has the effect of gently stirring the sample solution. Vortex mixers are commonly used in cell culture and microbiology laboratories, where they are often used for the suspension of cells.
In a biochemical or analytical laboratory, laboratory mixers of this type may be used to mix the reagents of an assay or other reagents. Scilogex offers two well designed and robust vortex mixers suitable for a range of laboratory applications.
The vortex mixers from Scilogex are both compact and stable, meaning that they require only a small amount of laboratory space. The small size allows these portable vortex mixers also to be easily transported from one location to another for greater convenience. A fixed-speed vortex mixer is available which provides movement at 2500 rpm, a standard setting for many applications. If greater variability is required, the variable speed vortex mixer can be used, which offers a full range of speeds from 0 to 2500 rpm. Both models have an electronic speed control to ensure the same speed is maintained at all times, even during changes of load. The orbital diameter of both models is 4 mm, providing an effective and efficient mixing vortex inside the sample. A wide range of accessories is available for the Scilogex vortex mixers, ensuring that almost samples in almost any vessel can be mixed using these instruments. SCILOGEX MX-S Vortex Mixer
