What "universal pipette tips" means in practice

A universal tip is built so the hub seals against most major pipette brands rather than one manufacturer's pipettes. In practice, that means a single tip line can serve a bench running a mix of pipettes, instead of forcing you to stock a separate branded tip for each instrument.

1. Will these tips fit my pipettes?

They're built as universal-fit tips, designed to seal against most major pipette brands. That covers the common pipettes on most benches. If you run an unusual or older instrument and need certainty, check the fit before committing to a large order, or contact Scilogex with your pipette model.

2. What's the difference between filtered and non-filtered tips?

A filtered tip has a barrier filter in the upper hub that blocks aerosols and liquid from reaching the pipette barrel. That protects the pipette from contamination and, more importantly, prevents sample-to-sample carryover in sensitive work like qPCR. Non-filtered tips are the standard choice for routine pipetting where carryover isn't a concern.

3. What's the difference between bulk, racked, and sterile?

Bulk tips come loose in a bag (typically 1000 per pack) at the lowest cost per tip; you load them into a rack or pick them by hand. Racked tips come pre-arranged in a 96-position rack ready to load. Sterile tips are certified sterile out of the rack for contamination-sensitive work. Sterile filtered combines the sterile certification with the barrier filter.

4. Are these tips RNase/DNase-free?

Yes. All MicroPette tips are certified RNase/DNase-free and nuclease-free, which is what nucleic acid work requires. Sterile versions add sterility certification on top of that.

5. What do the colors mean?

Color is a quick visual cue for volume range: yellow for 2-200µL and blue for 100-1000µL are the long-standing conventions, with clear available across ranges. The color is for identification at the bench; it doesn't change the tip's performance.

6. How much do I save versus brand-name tips?

That depends on which brand and format you're comparing against, so confirm against your current tip cost. The structural saving comes from universal fit: one tip line covers a mixed-brand bench, and you're not paying a brand premium tied to a specific pipette.

7. Why is my orbital shaker making noise?

New units may need a break-in period. Persistent noise usually indicates an unbalanced load, loose platform, or worn belt. These issues are typically user-serviceable without expensive technician visits.
